Antique Fire Apparatus Show Returns to Carillon Historical Park on Sept. 5

DAYTON - The sights, sounds and history of the fire service will return to Carillon Historical Park on Saturday, Sept. 5 — Labor Day Weekend — as the Miami Valley Antique Fire Apparatus Association (MVAFAA) presents its annual Antique Fire Apparatus Show.

   The event runs from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and will feature approximately 40 pieces of antique fire apparatus displayed throughout the park. Visitors can get an up-close look at firefighting equipment spanning generations, from early horse-drawn apparatus to beautifully preserved and restored motorized fire trucks.

   The annual event was held at Veterans Memorial Park in Germantown for its first 23 years. In 2020, MVAFAA partnered with Dayton History to move the show to Carillon Historical Park, providing a larger setting for the growing collection of antique apparatus.

   Carillon Historical Park provides a fitting backdrop for the event. Located on 65 acres in Dayton, the park features more than 30 historic structures and millions of artifacts telling the story of the people, inventions and industries that shaped Dayton and the world. Highlights include the Wright Brothers National Museum, home of the original 1905 Wright Flyer III; the Carillon Park Railroad; Carillon Brewing Co.; Culp's Café; and the Carousel of Dayton Innovation.

   The Carillon Park Rail & Steam Society will offer rides on its 7.5-inch-gauge miniature railroad from 1 to 4 p.m. Rides are free, donations are appreciated.
