City of Piqua Announces Appointment of Finance Director

PIQUA - The City of Piqua proudly announces the appointment of Darren Meredith as director of the Finance Department. His first day in the role will be September 2, 2026.
“I am honored to join the Piqua team and look forward to carrying on the respected reputation of the City for financial excellence,” Meredith said. “The City of Piqua has a long tradition of financial excellence in Ohio, and I commit to continuing that legacy alongside the talented finance team.”
Meredith is a certified public accountant (CPA) and holds a bachelor’s degree in general business from Ohio University.
He brings more than 29 years of government experience, including more than 26 years of experience in government accounting and finance. Meredith has extensive experience in auditing and financial reporting, Ohio budgetary accounting, regulatory compliance and grant accounting. His background also includes experience with levies, bond issuances, investments, capital assets and the generally accepted accounting principles conversion process used by Ohio cities.
Meredith previously served as assistant treasurer for Gahanna-Jefferson City School District and as chief financial officer, treasurer and federal programs coordinator for Paint Valley Local School District. He also spent more than 20 years with the Auditor of State of Ohio, where he served in several roles, including assistant auditor, audit manager and team leader. Meredith has also operated a private CPA practice since 1994.
As director, Meredith will plan, direct and oversee the activities of the Finance Department, including financial reporting, budgeting, accounting, payroll, purchasing, debt management and the administration of the City’s financial policies and procedures.
“Darren brings an exceptional depth of experience in government finance,” Human Resources Director Catherine Bogan said. “His technical expertise, leadership experience and understanding of public-sector financial operations will make him a valuable addition to both our Finance Department and the City’s leadership team.”
Meredith has also been active in his community, serving for more than three years on the Beaver Village Council and volunteering for community events and festivals. He previously served as education co-chair for the Ohio Association of Government Accountants, helping coordinate educational opportunities for governmental accounting and auditing professionals. He is the father to two grown children, Kayla and Tyler.
“The City of Piqua has a longstanding commitment to responsible financial management, and Darren brings the experience and knowledge needed to continue that tradition,” Interim City Manager Rick Byron said. “We look forward to welcoming him to Piqua and are confident he will provide strong leadership for our Finance Department while helping position the City for continued financial success.”
Bogan thanked Finance Manager Kayla White for her commitment and leadership while serving as interim finance director.
