Click It or Ticket Campaign Kickoff to Begin
Information provided
TROY - With Memorial Day approaching and summer travel increasing, the U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), in partnership with Miami County Safe Communities, is reminding drivers and passengers to buckle up as part of the national Click It or Ticket campaign. This high-visibility seat belt enforcement effort will run from May 18 through May 31, 2026.
“During the Click It or Ticket campaign, we’ll be working alongside fellow law enforcement agencies and community partners to reinforce this lifesaving message,” said Dr. Vicky Knisley-Henry, Safe Communities Coordinator. “Choosing not to wear a seat belt could result in a ticket — or far more serious consequences.”
Community leaders emphasize that seat belt use is everyone’s responsibility. “We encourage families and friends to remind one another to buckle up in every seat, on every trip,” said Dr. Knisley-Henry. “Seat belts save lives, and that applies to everyone — children and adults, front seat and back.”
Wearing a seat belt correctly is just as important as wearing one at all. Children should always be secured in the appropriate car seat or booster seat based on their age and size.
Buckle Up the Right Way:
-
Position the shoulder belt across the middle of the chest and away from the neck.
-
Place the lap belt low across the hips, not the stomach.
-
Never put the seat belt behind your back or under your arm.
To launch the campaign locally, Miami County Safe Communities will host a press conference in partnership with Miami County Job and Family Services, located at 2040 North S Co Rd 25A, Troy, on Tuesday, May 12 at 1:00 p.m. Media and community members are invited to attend. Local law enforcement officials will be available for interviews and questions.
In addition, Miami County Public Health will offer free car seat checks from 1:00–3:00 p.m., with certified child passenger safety technicians on-site to ensure proper installation and fit.
