St. John’s Lutheran Church of Covington to Celebrate 170 Years with Special Services and Community Lunch

COVINGTON  — St. John’s Lutheran Church, a cornerstone of faith and service in Covington since 1855, is marking its 170th anniversary on Sunday, July 27. The celebration will include a potluck lunch following the 10 a.m. worship service, guest speakers and special pastor visits throughout the summer.

   An affiliate of ELCA’s Southern Ohio Synod, St. John’s prides itself on preserving tradition while engaging the community in outreach and fellowship. The July 27 celebration promises a chance to look back on nearly two centuries of ministry and togetherness.

Anniversary Celebration – July 27
● 10 a.m. Service: Join in worship to reflect on the church’s 170 years of spiritual growth and community impact.
● Potluck Lunch: A communal meal following the service in the fellowship hall — bring your favorite dish to share and mingle with current members and alumni.
● Guest Speakers: Keynote addresses planned to honor the church’s rich history and vision for the future.

 

Guest Preacher Events
In addition to the July 27 celebration, St. John’s has scheduled two special guest preacher services this summer:
● Sunday, July 7 – Former pastor Lynn Williamson will lead the worship service.
● Sunday, August 3 – Former pastor Steve Kimm will deliver a sermon.

   These events kickoff and follow-up the anniversary celebration, accentuating a season of renewal and spiritual enrichment. Each service begins at 10 a.m.

 

A Legacy of Faith and Service
Founded in the mid-19th century, St. John’s has remained a vibrant presence in Covington’s community life. Located at 200 E. Bridge Street, the church continues to host weekly worship, Sunday School and outreach programs, remaining faithful to its mission of “learning, serving and connecting” locally and globally.
