Volunteer Judges Sought for Upcoming Science Day Events in Miami and Champaign Counties

TIPP CITY — Upper Miami Valley STEM Education is seeking volunteer judges for three upcoming Science Day events that will showcase original student research projects and promote interest in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

Judges are needed for Miami County Science Day, scheduled for Feb. 12 at Tippecanoe High School; Champaign County Science Day, scheduled for Feb. 19 at Urbana High School; and the Upper Miami Valley Regional Science Day, which will be hosted Saturday, March 14, at Edison State Community College in Piqua.

Science Day events provide students in grades 5 through 12 the opportunity to design and present independent research projects, gain experience communicating scientific ideas, and explore potential STEM career paths. Volunteer judges play a critical role by evaluating projects, offering constructive feedback, and helping recognize student achievement through awards and advancement opportunities.

Community members are encouraged to serve as judges, including educators and others with an interest in supporting student learning. Judges need to have some area of STEM background (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics). Students will present projects in Animal Science, Plant Science, Medicine & Health, Microbiology, Chemistry, Physics, Engineering, Energy and more, and judges are matched with project categories that align with their interests and expertise. Conflict-of-interest guidelines are followed to ensure fairness.

Those interested in volunteering as a judge can find additional information and complete the online registration through the Upper Miami Valley STEM Education website at ohioumvsd.com/for-judges. Questions may also be directed to info@ohioumvsd.com.
