It's Time for Darke County Parks Annual Luminary Double Feature Weekend

Information from Darke County Parks

GREENVILLE - Kicking off the weekend is the Candlelight Walk at Bear’s Mill on Friday, December 5th from 6-9 p.m. Live music will be performed by Danny Schneible all night while 300 luminaries beautifully illuminate the nighttime trails. Follow them to a cozy bonfire down near the dam, completed with hot dogs, hot chocolate, and popcorn. When the chill of evening air begins to nip at your fingers and nose, make your way inside the Mill where you’ll be greeted with a warm smile!

Browse our festive gift shop or meander through the art gallery with a coffee or an apple cider. Then, head upstairs and follow along the storybook trail as you ascend to the 4th floor where a wonderful surprise awaits!

On Saturday, December 6th is the Walkin’ in a Winter Wonderland event at Shawnee Prairie Preserve from 6pm-9pm. With plenty to do, both inside and out, it is sure to entertain. Outside, you will be greeted with Christmas decorations galore. Follow over 600 luminaries that will guide you along the trails or let the magic of the faerie trail lead the way to the Nature Center, Candy Land, or to our beautiful log house. In the log house you’ll find treats and smiles to warm those rosy cheeks.

Head into the Nature Center to continue the festivities. The Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) will be hosting a craft in our assembly room as well as the usual favorite, cookie decorating. When you’re finished in the assembly room, head down the hallway to visit Santa himself! He can’t wait to see all the good little girls and boys of our community.

This event would not be made possible without the collaboration and help from our wonderful volunteers. From decorating trees, helping set up or tear down, or providing donations, any and all help is appreciated! If you’re interested in volunteering, we always appreciate the help.
