Information provided
COLUMBUS – The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) is excited to announce the return of the Ohio Women’s Outdoor Adventure weekend, now in its 11th year. The popular event, which features three days of fun and outdoor exploration, will be held Friday, September 12 through Sunday, September 14 at Deer Creek State Park and Lodge in Mount Sterling.
This unique weekend is designed to introduce women to a wide variety of outdoor activities in a supportive, beginner-friendly environment. Participants—ages 16 and up—can try their hand at boating, fishing, shooting sports, nature programming, and much more. Minors must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
“This is one of our favorite events each year. It’s always exciting to watch participants light up as they try something new—whether it’s paddling a kayak, casting a line, or learning about Ohio’s natural world,” said ODNR Director Mary Mertz. “We’ve seen how this weekend creates lasting memories and strong friendships. It’s not just about outdoor skills—it’s about community, confidence, and having fun together.”
The weekend offers hands-on instruction and a wide range of sessions led by skilled professionals from ODNR such as the Division of Parks and Watercraft, the Division of Forestry and the Division of Wildlife. Participants will have the opportunity to engage in a variety of sessions, including paddling, hiking, gun basics & range shooting, archery, art, nature exploration, and much more.
Accommodations for the weekend will be at Deer Creek State Park Lodge and Conference Center, located in Mount Sterling (Pickaway County). The park is a great blend of modern, updated facilities and exciting outdoor escapes. Set amidst rich farming country, the park’s well-appointed lodge, marina, large campground, and 18-hole golf course facilities go perfectly with outdoor activities such as boating, fishing, camping, and hiking. Attendees will enjoy a fun weekend while staying in newly updated, comfortable lodge rooms.
The cost for the weekend is $395 per person, based on double occupancy. This fee includes lodging, four activity sessions, five meals, a t-shirt, transportation between venues, and evening activities. With only 100 spots available, early registration is encouraged.
Registration opens for first-time participants on Tuesday, July 8 at 10 a.m., and for past participants on Tuesday, July 15 at 10 a.m.
