Piqua Fire Department Conducts Vertical Rope Rescue Training
Information from the City of Piqua
PIQUA - The Piqua Fire Department completed a series of vertical rope rescue training exercises last month to strengthen technical rescue skills and maintain readiness for high-angle emergencies.
Throughout the training, firefighters practiced repelling, raising and lowering simulated victims and reviewed the proper use of a variety of rope rescue devices and equipment. These skills are essential for responding to incidents in elevated or confined environments where safe, controlled movement is critical.
Rope skills are foundational to most other types of specialty technical rescue. Knowledge, skills and abilities developed through this type of training afford members not just a means to access and remove victims from high places, but also the core competencies required across a broad range of rescue disciplines. Ice rescue, swift water, diving, confined space, trench and excavation rescue, grain bin and structural collapse rescue specialties all rely on responders having established mastery of ropes and rope rescue techniques.
“Continuous training ensures our crews are prepared for any situation,” Fire Chief Lee Adams said. “Vertical rescue operations require precision and teamwork, and this training helps keep our skills sharp.”
The Piqua Fire Department remains committed to ongoing professional development to provide the community with safe, effective emergency response services.
