Sherriff's Office Warns of Missed Jury Duty Scam

MIAMI COUNTY - Several residents have reported receiving documents stating that they have missed jury duty in Federal District Court. They are then being contacted via phone with a suspect identifying himself as a Miami County Sheriff’s deputy. The suspect caller then ordered the victim to take money from his accounts and deposit it into a different banking system to avoid going to jail. This is a scam that has been going on across the country for several years. Law enforcement will never solicit money for any purpose. Should you receive such a call simply hang-up. If calls persist, please report to your local law enforcement agency. These type of scammers usually target seniors.
