Sewell Felix Summers, Jr.
Sewell Felix Summers, Jr., age 86, of Murfreesboro, TN, passed away at his home, surrounded by loved ones, on Tuesday, April 28th, 2026.
Mr. Summers was the son of the late Sewell Felix Summers, Sr. and his wife Dorothy Wilson Summers. He is survived by his devoted wife of over 67 years, Lola Imogene ‘Jean’ Summers; son, John Summers and his wife Celia; daughter, Janice Goodrich and her husband Jim; son, James Summers and his wife Christine; brother, Morris Summers and his wife Diann; eight grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
After graduating from Central High School in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, with the Class of 1957, Felix entered the United States Navy in 1959. He served four years aboard the U.S.S. Enterprise (CVN-65), the first nuclear-powered aircraft carrier, and was a proud plank owner. During his service, he was stationed aboard the U.S.S. Enterprise (CVN-65) during the Cuban Missile Crisis.
Following his military service, he began a career in retail management, working for several years with McCrory’s, McLellan’s, and Ontario Department Stores as both an assistant manager and store manager. He later worked for B.F. Goodrich in Troy, Ohio, for 15 years as a quality inspector, where he inspected wheels and braking systems used for the Space Shuttle program.
While residing in Troy, Ohio, for more than 20 years, Felix also earned his real estate license and obtained an Associate’s Degree in business from Miami Jacobs College in Dayton, Ohio. He was also a proud Freemason and a member of Masonic Lodge 661 in Smyrna, Tennessee. Among his most cherished memories were his travels with his Navy reunion association and the lifelong friendships he formed in Troy, Ohio.
A visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday, May 8, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a celebration of life service to be conducted on Saturday, May 9, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home & Memorial Gardens, 5350 NW Broad Street, Murfreesboro, TN 37129.
At the family’s request, and in honor of his memory, donations may be made to the
American Cancer Society in lieu of flowers.
