Springfield Rotary Gourmet Food Truck Competition Returns on Aug. 17

Information provided

SPRINGFIELD - The Springfield Rotary Gourmet Food Truck Competition is set to return for a 10th year, featuring palate-pleasing mobile cuisine, a beer garden and live entertainment that is fun for all ages. The community-favorite event will run from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Aug. 17 at Veterans Park in Springfield.

“When we first started this event 10 years ago, we never imagined the success and longevity it would have, but people love events that revolve around food and drinks - especially when they benefit charitable causes - so this really is a winning combination,” said Eddie Bell, president of Springfield Rotary. “Over the past decade, we’ve raised over $300,000 through this event that we’ve invested back into the Springfield community through various projects and organizations, as well through several projects in Lesotho, Africa.”

Tying into the winning combination of this event is the unique competition aspect. Up to 40 food trucks serving a variety of gourmet cuisine will compete, with a panel of celebrity judges scoring each of their signature dishes. The first place winner will receive a $5,000 grand prize. A $2,500 runner-up and $1,500 third-place winner will also be selected by the judges. In addition, all event attendees can vote via the Springfield Food Truck mobile app for their favorite food truck to receive the $1,000 “People’s Choice” award. All winners will be announced on stage at
approximately in the evening. Celebrity judges and the live entertainment schedule for this year’s competition will be announced in the coming weeks.

Selected food trucks will serve American comfort food and standards (such as BBQ, burgers, pizza and seafood), cuisine from around the world (such as African, Asian, Cajun, German, Greek, Hawaiian and Indian), as well as sweet treats and desserts that will line the park’s pathway to cure any craving. All signature dishes as well as other menu items will be available for attendees to purchase.
