Tavern Takeout Returns Oct. 24 to Support Local History
Information and image provided
TROY - The Troy Historical Society will bring together food, history, and community with the return of Tavern Takeout on Saturday, Oct. 24, 2026. Proceeds will support the work of The Troy Historical Society and the ongoing restoration of the Overfield Tavern.
This year’s meal features a grilled Duroc pork chop, sautéed cabbage, cornbread, and spiced baked apples for $40. Local apple cider will be available for an additional $3 and bottled water for $2. The meal will be prepared by Chef Bryan Begg of Smoke Alley Barbecue and Bakehouse Bread & Cookie Co., both generous sponsors of the event.
The Tavern Takeout menu is inspired by the foodways of Ohio’s early settlers. Historical accounts, together with evidence uncovered during recent archaeological investigations at the Overfield Tavern, are helping The Troy Historical Society better understand the foods available to early residents and how meals were prepared and served. Tavern Takeout offers a modern interpretation of some of those foods and flavors.
Built in 1808, the Overfield Tavern is Troy’s oldest building and one of the oldest buildings in Miami County. The Tavern served as an early gathering place and Troy’s first courthouse. For more than two centuries, food and community have been part of its story.
Following the December 2024 fire, the Overfield Tavern remains unable to host its traditional Yuletide Dinners. Tavern Takeout continues that tradition of gathering around food while serving as the Society’s major annual fundraiser.
Meals will be available for pickup at scheduled times on Oct. 24 at St. Patrick’s Soup Kitchen, 25 N. Mulberry Street in Troy, directly across from the Overfield Tavern.
Tickets are $40 and must be purchased in advance: https://www.zeffy.com/en-US/ticketing/tavern-takeout
