Troy Foundation Approves Grants Totaling $425,576 for 22 Programs

TROY - During their September meeting, members of The Troy Foundation Distribution Committee approved grants totaling $425,576 to 22 programs. The grants will be used in support of the Foundation’s mission to improve the quality of life for our community by connecting donors to charitable causes for a better tomorrow. Grants were awarded from the General Fund, the Priority Needs Fund, and the Richard Shellenbarger Music Fund.

General Fund Grants
General Fund grants are made possible thanks to contributions from our unrestricted funds: the Charles Morrill & Virginia McCullough Allen Fund, the Gladys J. Burnett Fund, the Harold & Lillian Miles Fund, the Hayner Family Fund, the Leo H. Faust & Grace Fern Heck Faust Endowment Fund, the Leo & Vivian Nolan Memorial Fund, the Mark & Dorothy Knoop Fund, and the Ralph & Margaret Heberding Fund.
 

  • Troy City Schools was awarded $209 for the purchase of a classroom set of the book The Wild Robot.

  • Miami County Educational Service Center was awarded $1,710 to support outings for students in their multiple disability classrooms at Troy City Schools.

  • Samaritan Works received $2,000 to cover the necessary weekly fees of recovery housing for residents of Troy.

  • Miami County Continuum of Care was granted $2,000 in support of their Boot Camp for Case Managers program which trains case workers and social service providers on the available resources in Miami County.

  • Troy Lions Charities was awarded $2,500 for their sight conservation project which pays for eye appointments and eyeglasses for residents of Troy.

  • SafeHaven, Inc. received $2,500 to increase the availability of mental health services they provide to Troy residents.

  • Reading For Change received $3,200 to purchase the Lexia Core 5 curriculum software, which is designed to accelerate the development of reading skills.

  • The Overfield Tavern Museum was granted $3,506 to support the creation of the Troy Historical Alliance e-Newsletter.

  • Crayons to Classrooms was awarded $6,500 to expand their programming in Troy City Schools allowing more teachers to receive schools supplies for their classrooms.

  • Richard’s Chapel United Methodist Church received $10,000 to support their lunch program. This program provides a free hot lunch Monday-Thursday to anyone in need.

  • Ohio’s Hospice of Miami County received $10,000 to purchase new patient beds for their inpatient care center. The new beds feature many safety and comfort features allowing staff to provide the best possible care.

  • Clothes That Work was granted $10,000 for their Miami County workforce development program. They will use their mobile outreach unit to provide work-appropriate clothing and coaching to people in our community.

  • Troy City Schools was granted $14,094.99 to replace the timpani in the Junior High band classroom. This instrument will improve the quality of the bands performances and the overall learning opportunities for percussionists.

  • The Apple Grant Fund received $19,588.02 to support its 2025 grants to teachers to improve the educational experience of their students.

  • RT Industries was awarded $30,000 to purchase transportation scheduling software. This software will allow RT Industries to provide a more reliable and efficient transportation service to their clients.

  • TCN Behavioral Health received $40,000 to support the operations of the Hope House. The Hope House aims to provide comprehensive support for those recovering from substance use disorder and help them gain a more stable situation. This grant is awarded from the General Fund ($24,000) and the Priority Needs Fund ($16,000).

  • First Place Food Pantry was awarded $54,000 in operational support. The pantry is experiencing increased costs along with increased usage. This support will increase their ability to provide quality food and service.

  • Lincoln Community Center was granted $75,000 for their after-school program. This program provides a safe place for students to go after school along with educational programming and tutoring.


Priority Needs Fund Grants

  • Child Care Choices received $5,000 in support of their awareness and action campaign. The goal of this campaign is to raise awareness of the childcare crisis and generate solutions for how to address the issue.

  • FISH of Troy was granted $50,000 to support their rental assistance program. Those in need of rental assistance to prevent an eviction can call FISH for support once in a six-month period.

  • Habitat for Humanity of Miami & Shelby Counties was awarded $75,000 for their home repair program. A portion of the money will go directly to roof replacement and the rest will be used for other home repairs.


Grant awarded from the Richard Shellenbarger Music Fund

  • St. John’s United Church of Christ was granted $8,768 to support the refurbishment of the pipe organ at the church.


   The Distribution Committee meets quarterly to review grant applications. Only organizations with a 501(c)(3) status are eligible to apply.
