Dayton VA’s Andrea Wingo to Speak on Caregiver Support at Veterans Museum on Dec. 3
Information from the Miami Valley Veterans Museum
TROY — Andrea Wingo, caregiver coordinator at the Dayton VA Medical Center, will speak about caregiver support and veteran services during the Miami Valley Veterans Museum’s monthly session on Dec. 3. The program begins at 9 a.m. at the museum, 2245 S. County Road 25A. Veterans and their supporters are encouraged to attend. Refreshments will be served starting at 8:30 a.m., courtesy of Miami County Veterans Services.

Wingo has worked at the Dayton VA for 28 years in roles that include substance abuse treatment, mental health case management, in-patient medicine and, for the past six years, caregiver support. She earned her undergraduate degree from Ohio State University in 1993 and a master’s degree in social work from OSU in 1995. She is a Licensed Independent Social Worker in Ohio.
Wingo’s family has a long history of military service, including a father-in-law who retired from the U.S. Air Force after 20 years, a maternal uncle who served in the Navy, three paternal uncles who served in the Marine Corps and Air Force, and a son currently serving full-time in the National Guard.
She also speaks proudly about the historic Dayton VA campus, one of the nation’s original veterans facilities established in 1868, and the Abraham Lincoln statues there created by Urbana sculptor Mike Major. Wingo notes that Lincoln once slept in one of the buildings on the grounds and that his vision for veterans’ care helped shape the VA mission, including today’s support for caregivers and survivors.
According to Wingo, caregivers supported through the Dayton VA often feel less isolated and gain access to resources both on campus and in their local communities. She encourages caregivers seeking eligibility or enrollment to call the national VA hotline at 877-222-8387 or the Dayton VA at 937-268-6511 and request the caregivers’ eligibility and enrollment office. Caregivers may also contact their county Veterans Service Office; in Miami County, the number is 937-440-8128.
A question-and-answer session will follow Wingo’s presentation.
