Maple Sugarin’ on the Prairie and Waffle Breakfast Set for March 7 in Greenville
Provided by Darke County Parks
GREENVILLE - It is the tastiest time of the year at Darke County Parks! Maple Sugarin’ on the Prairie and Waffle Breakfast is approaching quickly. The sweet smell of syrup will fill the air on March 7th from 8am-12pm.
Inside the Shawnee Prairie Nature Center will be the delicious breakfast that happens only once a year. You’ll be greeted with smiling faces and all you can eat waffles! There will be dine-in options to bring the family and mingle in the assembly room, or take-out to enjoy at home. The Friends of Darke County Parks will be hosting a bake sale as well, adding another layer of sweetness to the day's festivities. However, outside is where the real magic happens.
The smell of syrup is wafting from the Sugar Shack, where our crew will be boiling down the maple sap to make everyone’s favorite liquid gold. On top of making it fresh in-house, you’re welcome to see the process from start to finish. They will be boiling until the last batch is finished, so no rush. Historically dressed volunteers will be in the log house and blacksmith shop for our open houses. Our naturalists will be leading the way on the trails, teaching about the science and history of maple syrup. Their enthusiasm over the subject is hard to beat, so head towards the maple trail for a sweet education. Speaking of the maple trail, if you sponsored a bucket, don’t miss your name on one of the sap buckets along the way!
This fundraising event is always one for the books, and we can’t wait to make it even tastier in 2026!
