Abbey Credit Union Celebrates Grand Opening of First Student-Run Branch Inside Milton-Union High School
Information provided
WEST MILTON – Abbey Credit Union proudly celebrated the grand opening of its first student-run branch inside Milton-Union High School on April 11, 2025. This unique partnership between the school and the credit union brings financial education to life by giving students the opportunity to operate a functioning credit union branch during school hours.

Led by five Milton-Union students and supported by staff advisor Ms. Anderson, the branch allows students to assist their classmates with real transactions, including deposits and withdrawals. It also encourages their peers to take an active role in managing their money by opening savings accounts and learning the basics of everyday finances. More than just a new branch, the celebration marked a moment of school pride. The red-and-white ribbon-cutting ceremony was filled with balloons, confetti, and laughter, as students, faculty, and credit union team members gathered to commemorate the launch.

“This is about more than banking,” said Ms. Anderson. “It’s about giving students real-world experience that builds confidence and prepares them for life after graduation. The more skills they can build now, the better equipped they’ll be for their future.”

Abbey Credit Union has committed to awarding a $500 scholarship annually to a participating student who demonstrates an understanding of the importance of financial literacy. The credit union also worked with Milton-Union Schools to design a Bulldog-branded debit card that reflects the energy and spirit of the student body. The success of the grand opening reflects a shared commitment to empowering students through collaboration, community pride, and hands-on learning. Abbey Credit Union is honored to be a part of this milestone and looks forward to helping students grow both personally and financially for years to come.
