Troy Hayner Center to Host an Art Quilt Exhibit

Information provided

TROY - The Troy-Hayner Cultural Center is pleased to present Color + Geometry = Magic: Contemporary Patchwork Quilts. This fine art exhibit features modern patchwork wall hangings by Kate Spencer. The show will be on display April 17th – June 7th. The exhibit is free and open to the public.

Although patchwork quilts are conventionally thought of as craft rather than art, this collection of contemporary patchwork wall hangings by Kate Spencer (Lady Kate Quilting Designs, Cincinnati, Ohio) reveals how craft can rise to the level of art.

The patchwork quilter has two essential tools, color and geometry, to create her effects. Whether Kate is using a traditional quilt block like Log Cabin or Ohio Star, or a contemporary pattern, or creating her own design, each of her quilts is one-of-a-kind. They show off her expert eye for color and the precision of her piecing. In contrast to most modern quilters, Kate quilts all her creations by hand rather than by machine. She chooses quilting templates that will enhance the design of the piecing. Her meticulous quilting stitches, done in contrasting thread, routinely draw the admiration of her viewers, especially fellow quilters.

The Troy-Hayner Cultural Center is proudly supported by the citizens of the Troy City School District through a local tax levy and generous gifts to the Friends of Hayner.
