Hug the Earth Festival Set for April 18

TROY — The Miami County Park District will host the annual Hug the Earth Festival on Saturday, April 18, at Lost Creek Reserve from noon to 5 p.m.

​

   The Earth Day-themed event will feature live music, wildlife programs, demonstrations and hands-on activities for families throughout the park.

 

   The Banana Slug String Band will perform from noon to 12:45 p.m. and again from 4 to 5 p.m. Additional programming includes a presentation by the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium from 12:45 to 1:45 p.m., boomerang demonstrations from 1:30 to 2:15 p.m. and 3 to 3:45 p.m., and falcon demonstrations from 2:15 to 3 p.m. and 3:45 to 4:30 p.m.

 

   Activities will be offered across multiple themed areas. The Space Zone will include a rocket shoot and Whirling Worlds. The Awesome Animals area will feature bees, a butterfly house, candle dipping, farm animals, insect exhibits and wildlife displays. Outdoor Adventure activities will include archery, a slack line, zip line, tree climbing and a new cave simulator, along with a climbing wall.

 

   The Geology Zone will offer pet rock painting and a stones and bones dig. The Whimsical Woodland area will include a natural play area, a superhero trail hosted by The Fairy Godmother Events, gnome and fairy house building and a storybook trail. The Plant Play Area will feature a corn pit, straw jump and toys made from trees.

   Additional attractions will include caterpillar train rides by Wildlife Safari, a mobile river aquarium, nature art, face painting and conservation booths and vendors. Amenities will include a lullaby lounge baby changing station and a universal changing area.

​

   Food vendors scheduled for the event include Cumberland Kettle Corn, Keyhole Pizza, Kona Ice, Susie’s Big Dipper, The Chunky Chicken and Travelin’ Tom’s Coffee.
