Piqua Power System Provides Mutual Aid to Lansing Following Severe Storms
Information provided
PIQUA - The City of Piqua’s Power System responded to a call for mutual aid from American Municipal Power, Inc. (AMP) last weekend, assisting with power restoration efforts in Lansing, Michigan, following a series of strong storms that swept through the region on Friday. The storms left approximately 220,000 customers without power, including 26,000 within the Lansing Board of Water & Light’s (BWL) service territory.
Piqua crews remained local through Friday evening to monitor and respond to potential impacts from storms in our own area. Once local conditions had stabilized, three Piqua line personnel, along with a large bucket truck, departed early Saturday morning to assist in Lansing.

Over the weekend and into the week, the Piqua team joined other AMP member communities in coordinated restoration efforts. Thanks to their hard work and dedication, significant progress was made in safely restoring power to affected residents. Piqua’s crews were officially released from their mutual aid assignment Wednesday morning.

“We’re proud of the commitment and professionalism our crews demonstrated throughout this effort,” Piqua Power System Director RJ Monnier said. “Providing mutual aid is a key part of being a public power utility, and we’re honored to support our fellow communities in times of need.”
