Troy-Hayner Cultural Center Invites Community to a Free 50th Birthday Party

TROY - On Saturday, Aug. 1, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Troy-Hayner Cultural Center will celebrate 50 years as Troy's cultural center with A Birthday Party for Hayner: 50 Years of Fun, a free family event filled with cake, games, art, live entertainment and plenty of surprises.
Held at the Troy-Hayner Cultural Center, 301 W. Main St., the celebration is a thank you to the community that has supported the Hayner Center over the past five decades. Whether you grew up attending concerts, visited an art exhibit, took a class, or are stopping by for the very first time, this party is for you.
Every birthday party needs cake, and guests will have the chance to decorate their own slice with icing, sprinkles and other sweet toppings before enjoying their creation.
Families can also explore five decade-themed birthday party stations, each inspired by a different era from the Hayner Center's history. From retro games and crafts to more modern favorites, each station imagines what a birthday party might have looked like during that decade, giving kids and parents plenty to discover together.
Throughout the afternoon, children can create their own artwork, play giant parachute games on the lawn, and step inside a mobile video game truck for even more fun. Chase from PAW Patrol will make special appearances during the event, the Troy Civic Band will perform from 12:00 to 12:30 PM, and nationally recognized entertainer Mike Hemmelgarn will take the stage at 1 p.m. with a family-friendly comedy juggling and ventriloquism show.
"The juggler sounds like a lot of fun!" said 9-year-old Ryse Ogestelli. "You should come so we can make matching upcycled art together!" added his sister, Avery.
The celebration will also feature the debut of Upcycled into Art, a new community art competition showcasing artwork created from recycled and repurposed materials. Artists of all ages are encouraged to participate by creating an original piece using items that might otherwise be thrown away. Entries will be displayed during the birthday party, and awards will be presented in youth and family categories. Food will be available for purchase from Donatos Pizza and Susie's Big Dipper throughout the event.
Since opening as a cultural center in 1976, the Troy-Hayner Cultural Center has welcomed generations of families through its doors for concerts, exhibits, classes, performances and community celebrations. This birthday party is a chance to celebrate those memories while making a few new ones.
